The old Boston & Maine railroad station here in Garrettville is now, part museum, and lodging for CSX and NS overnight workers. Most people live here in Garrettville, but occasionally we have visitors. Samson Jr runs the museum. His family has been in Garrettville as long as The Garretts. In fact, his great grandma Myrtle married Jeb Garrett, the founder of Garrettville. The house Myrtle and Jeb built still stands at the Garrett Estate.
The “Garrettville” Council decided to remodel the old station in 2022. The funds mainly came from the town’s treasury but Norfolk Southern and CSX added some funds as well. Downstairs the museum has an HO scale train Layout depicting the station from the 1940s, until 1999 when Conrail stop using the station.
The Museum also contains pictures and memorabilia from Garrettville itself. Examples are some of Garrett Mine’s earliest tools, Images of The First Grace Church, and other buildings while they were under construction. Of course this includes the railroad station. Other photos include: the old police and fire house, Pine Pass, Eagles Cliff, Samson’s bend, the lighthouse, and many others. Another section is dedicated to Conrail’s time using the station. Also, Boston and Maine have a section.
The upstairs has four bedrooms, a small kitchen, and living area for the visiting crew. Next to the NS and CSX current maintenance yard and fueling station. Also next to the station is downtown Garrettville. The town is pretty much a typical northeastern town. Small, quaint, and full of Faith. Jeb Garrett and Mrytle were very faithful stewards of Jesus Christ, So if you are ever in Garrettville USA, come check out the station.
